Elder Brody Jensen

Don't worry, the guy did a pretty good job, better than every haircut that I've given myself, haha. This last week cruised by. We didn't find many new people this week but spent a lot of time with those we already have met and helped them to continue to progress. Two of our friends from Haiti don't know much English and that is a struggle we are having with them. I still can't believe that we are teaching people that don't understand us but the members of the church who know English and Haitian Creole are a lot of help. One of our friends, Walline, who didn't know much English before has actually been learning and understands a lot more than when she first started meeting with missionaries. So that is way cool to see and gives me hope that she will be able to learn a lot more easily from us.  It was another week of being fed a lot by members. Oh I love Nassau and food, haha. We had transfers this last week so the week before transfers ended pretty well. We got fed a lot and had even more amazing lessons with our friends. After 6 weeks things are really picking up and I think after 3 months of being on a bike, my legs are getting used to it. The Bahamas has been way amazing! Even though it's becoming the rainy season and we get caught in the rain all of the time, it's been the best here. I will say a large part of how good things were isn't necessarily the circumstances only but the things I've been learning.  Now transfers were on Monday and we had a little switcheroo with the Elders in Freeport and I'm now companions with Elder Lewis, who was one of the other Elders here in Nassau for the last 6 weeks. That same day our phone was placed down a little too close to the ocean and an upcoming tide soaked it pretty bad. That left all four of us with 1 phone again for 3 days. We did the best we could! We got to have p day on Tuesday and that was really nice because all of Monday, our regular day to prepare for the week, was spent in the airport coming back from Jamaica. On Tuesday we spent time golfing and I can say that I've probably now learned how to golf! Elder Provost showed me a few tips and after I drove my first ball straight out, I knew I was now hooked. Look out for me on a green when I get back or if you're in the Bahamas anytime soon haha! We are actually going to go to the driving range again this Monday.  Then the next few days we had some very great discussions with a few people we have only met recently. One guy named Nahum reached out to us and he is very interested in learning more. He is from Haiti and has been here for 2 weeks. He met missionaries in Haiti and learned English there from the missionaries. He knows most of what we shared already but just wants to be taught again and eventually be baptized. Got to go back to Jamaica again. I feel like every email I send I just talk about where I flew to this time. It's been crazy and it's been easy to keep ourselves busy.  We have had too many appointments with people that the bike riding has held us back this week from meeting with a few people. Sometimes they're just too far or we don't have enough time. We had a really great district council this week and part of it was when we talked about how we have seen ourselves grow in charity for others. Charity is the pure love of Christ and I would say that is one of the hardest attributes of Christ to emulate sometimes. Elder Provost, in the district, decided to twist the question a little bit and share how he has seen his companion grow in charity. Sometimes it is hard to see the growth in yourself, especially over only a few weeks. I can promise you that if you are trying to improve that, you are. Yep I got to exchange and go back to Freeport with Elder Samuel's for 2 days. It was cool to see many of the people there and it felt really weird being back after only 2 weeks, everything was "new" but exactly the same if that makes any sense. Back in Nassau we have been working hard with several families and things are paying off! We had a great visit with the Etiennes. Last week I saw that one of the kids, Clark, had a guitar. I tried to tune it but snapped a string because they were so old and rusty. So this week I bought some strings that I had and spent some time restringing his guitar. He got so excited to have his guitar freshened up and I ran through how to start learning. We were able to share a great message on how God gives us talents to bless others. We were also able to take Clark out to visit some of his friends and their families. The first few visits he didn't know what to say as he was new to trying to share the gospel with his friends. This week felt really good here in Nassau! It did consist of a few flat tires... We were all going to down town to go and meet people but on the way my tire tube popped. We found a near bike shop and had to wait for the mechanic to show up so we walked. It was about lunch time as well so we walked all the way to a McDonald's here in Nassau. Then we walked back and got the new tube put in. Then this last Saturday, Elder Provost had a flat and it turned out that I had a few broken spokes on my back tire! Didn't know how far back that happened but that's not so good. We couldn't get them fixed Saturday evening so they were going to have to wait until Monday. Thankfully the branch president here in Nassau, President Smith was kind enough to pick us up for church while the other two biked. My last few days in Freeport were so good and I am always so happy to leave an area on a high note. There were many miracles last week and many members that we have spent the last 7 weeks visiting were sad to see one of us go. It was a great, hard working time in Freeport and I learned a lot with Elder Samuels. Definitely miss him and my time there but good things are still ahead!    Well I'm now in Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas. My new companion is Elder Saetre and he was serving in Port Antonio branch, which is somewhere I served, for around 4 months. It was a huge adjustment going from quiet Freeport to loud, noisy Nassau.   It's been tough to try and meet with the members here at the beginning but a miracle was that we were able to meet with Sister Okhuarobo, who is the president for the women in the branch here.
