We Bought a Zoo

I forgot to share this last week so I thought I would throw it in.   We met Dave a few weeks ago, who is one of the friendliest, intoxicated people I have met! He just called at us from the bush on the side of the road and started to chat with us. He then asks if we like cane and I do love me some sugar cane, so I said yeah. He then proceeds to invite us into his property and walks us through this forest of banana and mango trees to get to this patch of sugar cane. He cuts up 3 stalks and gets us some #11 mangos!! Yeah, number eleven is the name of the mangos, I don't know why, but they are so good!    This week started off good with a mission tour with Elder Gaverett, who is the area President over our mission, and many great things were shared on striving to work by the Spirit. I guess that is what we should always be doing, haha, but it was especially emphasized on using the spirit while finding people to teach.    Right after the mission tour I had the chance to finally g

The missionary work in Yallahs is still going strong

Early this week we got to have interviews with President Odonkor!! I really do love President and he shared a lot in my interview pertaining to the area and the district. One thing that I saw coming, with my calling of Branch Clerk, was that I am going to be here in Yallahs for a long while. I am grateful, though, because I know that I will really come to love the area and the people here.  After a good 6 weeks we are back to a 2-man apartment. 4 Elders in an apartment was fun, but it was better for their area to finally have them move to Dalvey (which is where they used to drive/taxi to everyday). Elder Driscoll and I have the Yallahs Palace to ourselves and it is very spacious for 2, haha.   We had exchanges with the zone leaders on a day that they did not have their truck, haha. So that meant that we had to figure out how to taxi to Kingston and get to their apartment. Don't worry it all worked out with a little assistance. For our exchange both companionships worked in Kingston

This week started off pretty interesting with Elder Englestead leaving the quad and going to Port Antonio and Elder Kanan not getting his new companion. He was supposed to train a new Elder but the new Elder's work permit hasn't been approved yet so we were put as a trio to cover both areas. We were certain that it would be that way for the whole next transfer. We ended up only being in a trio one day in the other Elder's area and one day in Yallahs. After that we got a new Elder to come in, which was good.  Something that was amazing happened on the day we were in our area. We taught Romain, who we found on Sunday, and had an amazing lesson with him. At the end of the lesson I just asked him if he wanted to follow the example of Jesus Christ and be baptized. It was a simple invitation and he said yes! We set the date for July 30th and then explained a few more things to him and the Spirit there was so strong. He said that he knows he doesn't understand everything, but

Staying in Yallahs

Dang it has really felt like a short transfer! Part of that may be because I moved here only a month ago, but still so quick. Both Elder Driscoll and I will be staying here in Yallahs for at least another 6 weeks. However, to be honest, it looks like it may be a good bit more, so let's go Yallahs!  We really have been teaching a lot of cool people this week and it is so amazing to see the difference between those who can feel the Spirit as messages are shared and those that show less interest. There is this one guy named Romain that we found last week. It had just poured real hard and all of our lessons were cancelled for the day. We then decided, after it stopped raining, to go to this one area with a lot of houses. There were not very many people out still, but we saw a guy on his veranda and asked if we could talk. We came up and asked him if he has ever seen missionaries like us around and if he has ever wondered what it is we do. He said yes because he has always seen us aroun
