Service!!!

Image
This week was filled with opportunities to serve! We were able to visit a family we started teaching and weed in their back yard. Elder Samuels went at it with the machete and when I went to start using it, Claudite, the mother, looked at me and told me that she could tell I didn't know how to use it. Well I didn't but by the end I was a lot better. Later in the week we were also able to rake up the backyard of the Guarro's. I just love Brother and Sister Guarro! Sister Guarro kept the conversation up while we were serving and Brother Guarro, the professional chef, prepared and great lunch! Then right afterwards we went to visit the Basdens who I also love so much. Sister Basden was cooking and had dry coconuts for us to open and grate. That was another first for me and was way easier than I thought it would be.  On Friday we had an interesting interaction with a concerned old lady. She called us over to her as we were riding on the road and asked us if we were Latter-Day

God Puts People on Our Path

This week we were able to get in contact with several members of the church that haven't been back for a long time. A few have moved off the island without telling anyone, haha, but we are figuring that out. One day we went out riding a ways away and first we had a guy pull up next to Elder Samuels and start talking to him along the road. Turns out he is a guy that we have been trying to get in touch with that recognized us, haha. He was working so he continued on and we will be reaching out again to him soon. Then someone we used to be teaching the gospel honked at us on the road. Finally, a member that we have also been trying to get in touch with drove alongside us and said "hey, how are you doing?" I had no idea who this guy was but I responded and asked him back how he was doing. Haha, then he said good and "I'll let you know about this later". I was so confused but he drove up to Elder Samuels, who was ahead of me, and said "oh by the way I'm

Round trip back to Jamaica

We had Zone Conference in Jamaica on Tuesday and then we were back to Bahamas on Wednesday. It was a way quicker trip than I thought it would be. There were a few small things that I noticed that I missed from Jamaica. The first one was the noise of the Island. In Freeport it's quiet but in Jamaica there are loud crickets, loud music, and loud honking of the traffic. For Zone conference we had some Cookson chicken and rice and peas for lunch and I also was glad to have that as well. It was fun to see everyone, including President and Sister Odonker, but once we got back to Freeport it felt like I was back home.  In Freeport, there is a lot of good work to do, but what we are doing is not on our timetable. It definitely requires a lot of patience. We have been meeting with two of our newer members in the branch, a mother and daughter, helping them to see that there is still so much more to grow after being baptized. We have taught them about the temple, being a disciple of Jesus C

3 flats, 1 week

Today we flew into Provo! It was crazy. Haha it was actually Provideniales, Turks and Caicos, but when we were descending the pilot said "Provo" for short! Elder Samuels and I, along with the Sisters in Turks and Caicos, are flying into Jamaica for zone conference this week. Back to the homeland! To explain the self-explanatory title, yep we got 3 flat tires this week and I won't say who got them. I definitely got better and quicker at repairing or replacing them though!  This week flew by almost as fast as our flights today took! We've been going about visiting members and serving along the way. One visit that was really cool was visiting Sister and Brother Basden. Elder Samuels and I love Sister Basden! She is the humblest person ever and when we visited we asked her if there was anything she missed and would want from Jamaica, and what would it be. She answered with her family, and we started talking about family history work from there. It may have not been what w

2023!!!

Crazy! It's 2023! Something that was absolutely great this week was that we got to serve a member in the branch! We washed this recent converts windows and car for her and she just couldn't believe that we were willing to do that for no pay or anything. I know service is a very common thing for missionaries to do but for me, I felt like it's been such a struggle here to just serve people and show that we care for them. It is looking up!  This week we recommitted towards working even more with members. This week we had so many lessons with members. Throughout most days we went from house to house of members we have met, talking and listening to them. We were able to see one brother make it back to church this week and his testimony was amazing. He simply said that he is back and will be back from now on.  Our focus with helping members is the temple. The temple is the house of the Lord. It's been over a year since I've gotten to be there myself and I want to help
