100 days what now?!
Ok, let's get this weekly started! I can't say how good this week felt! It was not perfect of course, but it was amazing. First, I love my mission president, President Odonkor! He is so open with how he wants things done and just wishes the best for all of us missionaries and people in Jamaica. He truly has a love for this mission that I can admire. He also is really funny so that is always a plus. The week started with our interviews, with President, for this transfer which Elder Knight and I made the mistake of having planned lessons afterwards. Needless to say that the interviews went long, as they normally do, and we had to reschedule.
Then Tuesday was my 100th day on the mission!! I couldn't believe it when it came up in my journal entry for the day (I have been numbering every entry). So on my 100th day of the mission we went to Bull Sav again and met with Kirk and his nephew JJ, who has been reading the Book of Mormon! I said last week that we have been focusing on getting people to read first and it has made the difference. In our lesson JJ showed interest in being baptized so we put him on date for the 19th! He has a lot to learn but we are going to be doing our best to help him meet that goal. 😁👍
Then Thursday and Friday we were fed!!!! Literally so happy to be getting food from Jamaicans haha. Thursday we went to a partially active members home and learned how to make Jamaican fried chicken and rice and peas. Then on Friday we were fed Curry chicken and rice by Owen who we are teaching! Some real yummy stuff!😋 Sadly, was not able to learn how to make Manish Water, but we are scheduling that with the members for a later date.
On Saturday we were able to teach a friend of a member and her whole family. We met them actually at church last Sunday and it was a really good first lesson! We gave them Book of Mormons (or Books of Mormon) and they committed to reading as a family!! We also went to teach our friend Mikel from the last couple of weeks and he is doing great!! He loves our messages and is always so excited to learn more from us and the Book of Mormon. We talked a lot about baptism and he said if he likes it at church this Sunday then he will definitely be baptized...
Well here is Sunday and we come up to the church to actually see Mikel there at the front door as well as the family we were teaching! Then later Owen and his sister Rose come in as well, which is amazing because they both are on a cane and walker! And it was Branch conference so we had some great talks given and lessons. Literally, could not believe it haha.
In my personal studies this week I have been learning a lot about the Doctrine of Christ, specifically 2 Nephi 31 and 3 Nephi 11-27, all great chapters in the Book of Mormon. We have such a vast source of scripture and words of the prophets to turn to but it all revolves around Christ, having faith in him, submitting ourselves to him and following his example. It has been amazing to study the scriptures and really see a common theme in all that we are taught. Here is my little summary "God loves us" haha that is it. The way back to him is simple and we are given everything we have to learn in order to do so. It is all because of the perfect love our Father in heaven has for us.
I may not love perfectly but I send all the love I have to those of you at home! I am doing great here in Jamaica and look forward to writing next weeklies email to y'all! 👋😁
