First whole week of being a foreign missionary😅

This week was pretty exciting! Right after P Day it started off with a guy who somehow got our number, calling us and asking for marriage advice. Haha, we were thrown back at first but got into a good discussion about prayer and asking God for help.

Now with all of our planned lessons, we saw so many miracles this week. First, we were at one member's house and were recommended to go over and check up on another member, Brother Thomas, that lived near by. When we called to say we were going over, Brother Thomas told us that that would be perfect because one of our friends we were teaching over the phone happened to be there as well!!! It was great and we were able to teach both of them!

We also planned this week to find Henry, one of our investigators, that we tried forever to find last week. We got some better directions and found him in about 15 minutes, haha, so much easier.

On Thursday we planned to go and visit a less active member and in our companionship study we actually did a practice lesson or roleplay where I acted as the member and Elder Knight as himself. We have never met or talked with this member before so we just guessed on her responses. When we met with her that day, it was crazy! We were going along with our lesson and it was amazing how similar it was to our roleplay! This goes for current and future missionaries. Role plays are awkward a lot of the time, but they work!!

Then Friday we met with Kurk Burke, another less active who absolutely loves the gospel haha. We talked about the importance of church, prayer, and scriptures and after that lesson we told him we were going to go teach his neighbors next. He wanted to join and he bore an amazing testimony on the Book of Mormon to his neighbors. On the way back to his house Kurk was just ecstatic! The happiest man I have ever seen haha.

On Saturday we met with our guy named Owen. He has the strongest testimony of Christ and that is saying something because many Jamaicans have very strong testimonies of Him. When we talked with Owen he shared a lot and his neighbor actually came and sat with us as well. We then shared a bit on having faith in Jesus Christ and showing our faith in our actions. Then his neighbor Rose starts sharing and throws in that she hasn't been baptized yet and wants to. Like what?! Haha. Now the hard thing will be going to church but we will work on that.

Now it definitely was not all ups this week but that is life. The work is definitely different here compared to the states and that would make sense because this is not the states. The land, culture, and people are different and that makes it difficult when you think you've gotten at least a little bit down on how to be a missionary.

However, I had a some great advice and counsel, shared with me by my dad last week, that I have come to realize to be very true for myself. It is a good thing to suffer. It is not fun, it is hard to talk about, and is hard to push through by yourself, but it is good. In Alma 36:3 Alma teaches his son saying  "...I do know that whosoever shall put their trust in God shall be supported in their trials, and their troubles, and their afflictions, and shall be lifted up at the last day." Dang that is a great promise! This week has been one where my companion and I were definitely supported in our work.

I hope all of you had a great week as well and if not, trust in God and this next week will be better. I love you all and so does our Heavenly Father!!

Elder Knight, wondering what those sticks are for (Chris later explained that they are sitting under a coconut tree for harvesting coconuts. That way you don't have to climb to get them down)

Enjoying our moment of cloud shade!!!

Look who decided to show up?!
